Servicing and maintenance

Booking your service or MOT

Proper vehicle maintenance is key to safety for you, passengers, and others.

Keeping up a regular service schedule is just one part of that, along with ensuring you keep on top of MOT requirements.

How you book a service or MOT for a vehicle leased from ALD Automotive depends on whether you have a service agreement included within your contract.

If you have a non-maintained agreement, call us on 08000 32 32 77 as we may be able to help.

Customers with a maintenance package

With a maintenance package, you can book a service or MOT via our online portal or you can call Driver Assistance on 08000 32 32 77 to arrange your MOT.

If your vehicle is over 3 years old and the MOT is overdue, the Road Fund Licence (RFL) cannot be renewed, your insurance will also be invalid, and you’ll be liable for any further costs that may occur.

It’s also possible that your vehicle may have a mechanical defect that could impact the safety operation of the vehicle.

When is my MOT due?

If we're the registered keeper of your vehicle, we’ll send MOT reminders starting three months before the MOT due date. If not, we aren't able to send reminders, but registered keepers can sign up for MOT text reminders via GOV.UK.

Missed services

It remains your responsibility to ensure all servicing is carried out on time and by an authorised dealer. Missed services or incomplete service history logs when the vehicle is returned to us, will be liable for any costs incurred (from an invalidated warranty or lower resale value, for example).

Failed MOTs

For safety and legal reasons, vehicles with an expired MOT or dangerous defects must not be driven until repairs are done and it passes a retest. If your vehicle fails, its MOT you will need to consider alternative transport.

For your safety and peace of mind, we recommend leaving the vehicle with the garage if it hasn’t passed its MOT. Our team will take care of everything needed to get the issues resolved and have your vehicle repaired and back on the road with a valid MOT as soon as possible.

If your agreement includes maintenance, we’ll help arrange repairs and the MOT retest, covering costs unless damage, misuse, or neglect caused the issues.

If you lack maintenance coverage repairs must be paid by you or your company. Repairs from damage, misuse, neglect, or if you lack maintenance coverage, must be paid by you or your company.

Tips for preparing for an MOT

Electric vehicles

Manufacturers' remote software updates for Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) must be carried out when required. You must also ensure the battery is kept at optimal charging levels as recommended by the manufacturer.

There are also a number of other factors to consider to maintain your BEV during the course of your lease.
